Fort Gordon again: Augusta Army post’s name is the same, but the face isn’t so familiar

Fort Gordon has its old name but a new namesake.

Effective immediately, on order Tuesday from President Donald Trump, the Augusta military base renamed in 2023 for President Dwight D. Eisenhower will be Fort Gordon again.

This time, Augusta’s new namesake of record is a Medal of Honor recipient who died during an initial humanitarian deployment to Somalia in 1993.
